Methodology - Laos (2026)
Educational model - not a tax authority assessment, not a tax return, not tax advice. Currency LAK (Lao kip).
Employee (income tax + social security)
- PIT is assessed on monthly salary at progressive rates: 0% up to LAK 1,300,000; 5% to 5,000,000; 10% to 15,000,000; 15% to 25,000,000; 20% to 65,000,000; 25% above.
- Social security (LSSO): employee 5.5% and employer 6% of gross remuneration, with the contribution base capped at LAK 4,500,000/month. The employee contribution is deductible before PIT.
- Taxable monthly income = gross - employee social security.
- The model computes the single-person case; the overtime PIT exemption (base salary below LAK 2,000,000/month) and allowance-specific exemptions are out of scope.

Self-employed (sole proprietor)
- Self-employed business income is taxed on the same progressive scale on net business profit (revenue minus actual expenses); social security is not modelled for the self-employed case.
