Methodology & sources

Methodology - Barbados (2026)

Educational model - not a BRA assessment, not a tax return, not tax advice. Currency BBD (Bds$, pegged 2:1 to USD).

Employee (income tax + NIS)

  • Income tax (income year 2026, after the 16 March 2026 budget that cut both rates by 1pp): taxable income = gross - basic personal allowance BBD 25,000; 11.5% on the first BBD 50,000 of taxable income, 27.5% above. NIS is not deductible.
  • National Insurance: employee 11.1% of insurable earnings, capped at BBD 5,360/month (max BBD 594.96/month); employer 12.75%. NIS is withheld off gross and does not reduce the tax base.
  • Out of scope: the spouse allowance (BBD 3,000), the pensioner allowance (BBD 75,000, age 60+), the Reverse Tax Credit, medical-exam / renewable-energy reliefs, and the 11.25% NIS convention some sources use (PwC, counting the 0.25% Resilience & Regeneration Fund sub-rate).

  • Self-employed NIS is 17.1% of insurable earnings, capped at BBD 5,360/month (BBD 64,320/year), paid quarterly; not deductible for income tax.
