Job Description:

This position involves designing and implementing initiatives to engage the Zeek community around the world, ensuring the project's continued success. Responsibilities include managing community sites, planning and managing events, and representing Zeek to related open-source projects.

Job Responsibility:

  • Develop and implement community engagement to support and grow Zeek's multidisciplinary user base, including cybersecurity analysts, network operators, and detection engineers
  • Plan, manage, moderate, and post to the project's community sites, including social media accounts, the Zeek blog, as well as the project's website
  • Develop, collect, analyze, and report on the state of the community, including results from periodic polls and user surveys
  • Plan and manage community events, such as webinars, in-person gatherings, and periodic training events and conferences. Travel, particularly but not exclusively across North America and Europe, is required to support community events
  • Design and procure promotional materials for the community, as give-aways, prizes, or event swag
  • Represent Corelight and the Zeek community to related open-source projects such as Suricata, Yara, and Wireshark, as well as at relevant open-source/community events
  • Collaborate with the Zeek project's Leadership Team as well as relevant Corelight stakeholders

Requirements:

  • Considerable experience participating in and building communities, preferably of an open-source or technical nature. We are particularly interested in candidates who are action-oriented and understand open-source values and initiatives
  • Experience using and managing social media accounts
  • Experience using and managing web platforms such as Discourse, WordPress, and Slack
  • Experience planning and managing events, such as user group meetings, workshops, and conferences
  • Being comfortable working with a globally distributed team. Corelight team members, Zeek developers, and open source software users are scattered across the planet
  • Facilitating complex and sensitive community management situations with humility, judgment, tact, and humor
  • Working independently and autonomously, managing multiple priorities and competing interests
  • Technical writing skills, to include editing content of sites like www.zeek.org and docs.zeek.org are a plus
