Z/VM Technical Consultant

• Design, deploy, and maintain IBM z/VM environments across multi-LPAR infrastructures
• Provide deep technical expertise in z/VM virtualisation, CP, CMS, RACF integration, and performance tuning
• Support provisioning, configuration, and lifecycle management of virtual servers and workloads
• Troubleshoot complex issues across z/VM, TCP/IP stacks, network routing, and storage connectivity
• Implement automation, monitoring, and operational improvements to enhance system reliability
• Collaborate with Linux, z/OS, storage, and network teams to ensure seamless cross-platform integration
• Produce technical documentation, architectural diagrams, and operational runbooks
• Participate in capacity planning, performance analysis, and platform modernisation initiatives
• Provide consultancy to stakeholders on best practices, platform optimisation, and future-state architecture
• Support security hardening, patching, and compliance activities

• Strong hands-on experience with IBM z/VM administration, engineering, or consultancy
• Deep understanding of z/VM CP, CMS, DIRMAINT, RACF, and virtual networking concepts (VSWITCH, VLANs)
• Proven ability to troubleshoot complex virtualisation, networking, and performance issues
• Familiarity with enterprise storage (FCP, EDEV, DASD) and SAN connectivity
• Strong scripting or automation capability (REXX, shell scripting, Python desirable)
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work with technical and non-technical stakeholders

• LinuxONE platform experience (deployment, performance tuning, secure service containers)
• Knowledge of KVM on IBM Z, containerisation (OpenShift on Z), or hybrid cloud integration
• Experience with z/OS, z/OSMF, or cross-platform mainframe environments
• Exposure to DevOps tooling, CI/CD pipelines, or infrastructure-as-code
• Understanding of enterprise security, encryption, and compliance frameworks
