We’re looking for caring, capable Support Workers to primarily walk alongside a young man with significant mental health needs and autism within our Dunedin Youth Services. This is a hands-on, relational role where your calm presence and practical skills will truly matter. You’ll provide active support to help him build independence, strengthen daily routines, and connect positively with his community. Mealtimes are an important part of his culture and identity, so confidence in cooking, meal planning, and supporting healthy eating habits is essential.
Job Responsibility:
Provide structured, active support (not just supervision)
Support emotional wellbeing using trauma-informed practice
Encourage independence in daily living skills
Help build meaningful community connections
Work as part of a supportive, values-driven team
Create positive, structured, and culturally affirming mealtimes
Requirements:
Experience supporting people with complex mental health needs
Understanding of strengths-based, trauma-informed practice
Experience in positive behaviour support
Confidence with cooking and supporting healthy mealtimes
Patience, resilience, and strong communication skills
