The Youth Director is a ministry leadership role responsible for coordinating and administering an effective and comprehensive ministry for youth in grades 6-12 and their families. This person will also seek to support parents and guardians as the primary caretakers of their children’s spiritual formation. The Youth Director will work collaboratively with the Senior Pastor, staff and other ministry leaders. This position reports to the Senior Pastor and Business Manager. This is a part-time, regular, exempt, in-person position. A minimum commitment of 24 hours per week is required, including evenings, weekends, and multi-day summer trips.
Job Responsibility:
Give guidance and coordination through enlistment, education, and motivation of the key leadership of youth work
Advise in the use of ministry materials, equipment, supplies, and space for youth groups in all church ministry organizations
Maintain an active ministry of personal witnessing and ministry, through a weekly schedule of not less than 24 hours per work week
Promote a regular ministry of outreach for the youth division in cooperation with the Church's plan of outreach
Provide appropriate activities for special projects
cooperate with the music ministry in providing music activities related to youth
plan and conduct special projects (such as camps and retreats) for youth ministry organization groups
Provide appropriate activities and training for parents of youth
Work with the library volunteers in providing resource materials for youth and youth workers
Prepare an annual budget for needs of the youth division for recommendation to the Finance Committee
administer the approved budget according to policy
Keep informed on the latest materials and methods related to youth work
Perform other duties as requested by the Senior Pastor
Requirements:
Church Membership and Regular Attendance
1-3 Years experience with youth in a Lutheran church
religious education experience preferred
Bachelor’s degree in education/related field or equivalent experience
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Excellent interpersonal skills with members of the congregation, leadership, employees, volunteers, youth and the community
Deep belief and understanding of the Bible and the doctrines of the Lutheran Church
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Strong supervisory skills with youth
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
