Our Youth Justice & Support Team (YJST) supports children who have offended or are at risk of offending. We work creatively and collaboratively to help them understand the triggers behind their behaviour, overcome challenges/barriers and move toward safer, more hopeful futures. We’re looking for a committed individual who shares this purpose and who thrives in a fast‑paced, multi‑agency environment. This is a fixed term/secondment position until 31st March 2028.

Job Responsibility

  • work closely with children, families, victims and partner agencies to reduce offending and improve life outcomes
  • engage children, assess safety, develop effective intervention plans
  • support children to thrive and build safety
  • ensure safety of persons harmed
  • complete detailed assessments
  • prepare high-quality reports and present in Referral Order panels, multi-agency meetings and court
  • supervise and monitor children through voluntary, out of court, community or custodial interventions
  • deliver evidence-based interventions
  • collaborate with schools, police, social care, health and community organisations
  • participate in duty rota
  • some evening and weekend work

Requirements

  • Experience working directly with children or families is essential
  • relevant degree or equivalent qualification required
  • confident, resilient and creative problem-solving
  • strong communication skills
  • organized, able to work to deadlines
  • committed to accurate record-keeping, safeguarding, equality and high professional standards
  • access to a vehicle and willingness to work flexibly including some evenings or weekends

  • Supervise the activities of 15-25 youth at any given time, maintaining knowledge of the whereabouts of all youth, the physical security, and contraband of all youth
  • Provide a safe, secure environment through the use of motivational techniques, individual rapport, positive discipline techniques, and the use of crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques as needed
  • Attend weekly staff meetings
  • Attend to each youth's general needs (general needs ie: oversee shower & toiletry needs), problem solving, providing interventions to ensure that youth are helping each other and are recognized for their efforts
  • Ensure that planning, doing, and evaluating are part of the daily routine for each youth, and that activities or opportunities for individual recognition are created and utilized
  • Document daily shift occurrences and incidents that are directly reported to Case Management at the end of each shift
  • Assists with the daily activities of disadvantaged youth, who are at high risk for substance abuse, status offences, or delinquency
