Youth Engagement Mentor. Location: Preston & Surrounding Areas. Pay Rate: £25.00 - £30.00 per hour. Contract: Flexible / Student-Centred. The Mission: Building a Bridge to the Future. Many young people today feel forgotten by the traditional education system. As a Youth Engagement Mentor, you aren't just a tutor; you are a lifeline. You will work one-on-one with students who are persistently absent or excluded from school, including those with SEND, SEMH challenges, or complex barriers to learning. Your mission is to build a 're-engagement bridge,' guiding students from total isolation back into a stable learning environment, college, or vocational pathway. The Role: Impact Beyond the Classroom. Your daily 'to-do' list is rarely linear. You will focus on three pillars: Stability, Skill-building, and Advocacy. Relationship Building & Wellbeing: Meet the young person where they are-sometimes literally at their front door-to build trust. You will deliver 1:1 sessions focused on confidence, emotional regulation, and self-esteem, providing a calm, trauma-informed presence during moments of crisis. Educational & Vocational Re-ignition: Deliver low-pressure, interest-based activities to reignite the habit of learning. You will physically accompany students to interviews or placements to reduce anxiety and teach vital life skills like budgeting and navigating public transport. Collaboration & Advocacy: Act as the 'voice of the child' in multi-agency meetings with Social Care and CAMHS. You will also support parents in creating a home environment that encourages attendance and growth. Why This Role Matters: 'Many of these young people have been told they are 'failures' by the system. Your job isn't to force them into a classroom; it's to prove to them that they are capable of success, regardless of what a traditional school setting says.'
