Job Description

Responsible for implementing cultural program activities and the supervision of youth participating in the Boys & Girls Club of the Omaha Tribe of Nebraska. The Youth Development Professional is tasked with the goal of properly supervising youth participants and carrying out structured, quality culturally specific programming. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each primary responsibility satisfactorily; with a strong focus on culture; healthy lifestyles, leadership, and relationships with caring adults.

Job Responsibility

  • Implement daily activities and schedules, assist in tracking attendance
  • plan and provide age-appropriate activities, meaningful cultural projects, games, and free play
  • prepare, give, and record daily snacks
  • Meet daily with Site Manager and other program staff to prepare for shift
  • Lead activities designed to enhance the health, emotional, social, intellectual, and physical development of children with a cultural aspect
  • Ensure the safety of the children enrolled in the program at all times
  • Ensure all rules are being followed and enforced, fairly and consistently, according to policy and procedure
  • Leadership in problem solving and decision making & resolving student situations - behavioral, emotional, and first aid
  • Maintain professional relationships with the children, parents, and co-workers and treat all with respect and dignity
  • The ability to exercise tact and handle information that is confidential, sensitive, or controversial
  • exercise authority in problems relating to youth
  • and utilize guidance and discipline plan
  • The ability to work and plan independently
  • Perform general housekeeping is, so that the site is left clean and ready for the net program/day
  • Work with staff on special events to carry out programs in all departments
  • Maintain close, daily contact with site professional staff to guide, interpret, explain, and plan organizational mission, program objectives and standards, discuss issues, and provide/receive information
  • Maintain regular, daily contact with youth to offer program activities, and to discipline, advise, and counsel
  • Maintain contact with external community groups, schools, community partners, parents and others to assist in resolving problems and to publicize program
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • college credit hours in education or child/youth development preferred
  • Experience working with youth, and/or with an organization that serves youth
  • planning, supervising, leading, and engaging in activities based on the developmental needs of young people, or equivalent experience
  • CPR/First Aid Certification (or within 6 months of hire)
  • Drivers' License preferred
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Ability to deal effectively with youth participants, including discipline problems
  • Demonstrated ability in working with young people, parents and community leaders
  • Strong knowledge of culture, language and ability to implement cultural activities with youth
  • Must pass background check and pre-employment drug screen
