Job Description

Year 6 Teaching Assistant – Full-time, long-term temporary and ongoing from as soon as possible. This Year 6 Teaching Assistant role offers the opportunity to support pupils during a crucial stage of their primary education within a structured and supportive school environment. The Year 6 Teaching Assistant will work closely with teaching staff to support learning, independence, and preparation for transition to secondary education. This is an excellent opportunity for a committed Teaching Assistant seeking a long-term, ongoing role in Norfolk.

Job Responsibility

  • Provide classroom support for Year 6 pupils throughout the school day
  • Support learning on a one-to-one or small group basis as directed by the class teacher
  • Assist pupils with core subjects, including literacy and numeracy
  • Support pupils' confidence, independence, and readiness for secondary transition
  • Help manage classroom behaviour using consistent routines and positive strategies
  • Prepare and organise learning resources and classroom materials
  • Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to teaching staff
  • Support pupils' social, emotional, and academic development
  • Uphold safeguarding, welfare, and health and safety responsibilities at all times

Requirements

  • Experience working as a Teaching Assistant or supporting pupils in upper Key Stage 2
  • Understanding of Year 6 curriculum demands and transition expectations
  • Patient, calm, and supportive approach to working with older primary pupils
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to build positive and respectful relationships with pupils
  • Willingness to commit to a full-time, long-term temporary and ongoing role
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
