Job Description

Year 2 Teaching Assistant – Full-time or part-time, temporary to permanent from September 2026 This Year 2 Teaching Assistant role offers the opportunity to support pupils during a key stage of their primary education within a nurturing and well-organised school environment. The Year 2 Teaching Assistant will work closely with the class teacher to support learning, independence, and confidence, with the opportunity for the role to become permanent for the right candidate.

Job Responsibility

  • Support the class teacher in delivering engaging Year 2 lessons
  • Work with pupils on a one-to-one or small group basis to support learning
  • Assist with early literacy and numeracy activities
  • Support pupils' social, emotional, and behavioural development
  • Help create a calm, positive, and inclusive classroom environment
  • Support classroom organisation and preparation of learning resources
  • Encourage pupil independence and positive learning behaviours
  • Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to teaching staff
  • Uphold safeguarding, welfare, and health and safety responsibilities at all times

Requirements

  • Experience working as a Teaching Assistant or supporting children in a primary setting
  • Understanding of Key Stage 1 learning and development
  • Patient, caring, and supportive approach to working with young learners
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Willingness to commit to a temporary role with the potential to become permanent
  • Ability to work full time or part time as required
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
