We are seeking a caring, patient and committed Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant to join our friendly primary school team in North Cornwall. The successful candidate will work within a mixed Year 1 classroom, providing consistent 1:1 support for a child with additional needs on an ongoing basis. This is a rewarding role requiring a nurturing approach, strong communication skills, and the ability to build a trusting relationship with a young learner to support their academic, social and emotional development.
Job Responsibility
Provide consistent 1:1 support for a Year 1 pupil with Special Educational Needs
Work under the direction of the class teacher and SENCO to implement individual support plans
Adapt learning activities and resources to meet the child's needs
Support the pupil's engagement in classroom activities and promote inclusion
Encourage positive behaviour, independence and social interaction
Monitor and record progress, reporting observations to teaching staff
Use appropriate strategies to support communication, emotional regulation and focus
Assist with transitions, routines and classroom structure
Support the wider class when required, maintaining a positive learning environment
Requirements
Experience working with children in a primary school setting
Understanding of Special Educational Needs and inclusive practice
Patient, calm and nurturing approach
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Ability to follow guidance and adapt quickly to pupil needs
Nice to have
Experience supporting pupils in Key Stage 1 (particularly Year 1)
Knowledge of early literacy and numeracy support strategies
Experience working 1:1 with pupils with additional needs
Relevant TA or childcare qualification (e.g. Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant)
