Job Description:

Since 1984, Parker Building Supplies has supported customers across the Southeast with reliable materials and customer‑focused service. As part of Independent Builders Merchants Group (IBMG), we balance local relationships with group expertise. We’re now expanding our team at our Parkers Building Supplies Hassocks branch and are looking for a reliable Yard Operative / Van Driver to support yard operations and customer deliveries.

Job Responsibility:

  • Assisting customers to locate and load materials
  • Loading and unloading supplier and customer vehicles
  • Operating a forklift (if licensed)
  • Keeping the yard clean, organised, and safe
  • Carrying out stock checks and reporting damages or shortages
  • Following all Health & Safety and PPE requirements
  • Delivering building materials to customers using a company van (up to 3.5t)
  • Planning efficient delivery routes in line with schedules
  • Ensuring loads are secured and paperwork is completed accurately
  • Providing friendly, professional customer service on every delivery

Requirements:

  • Full UK driving licence
  • Experience in a builders' merchant, trade, or construction environment (preferred but not essential)
  • Good knowledge of building materials (desirable)
  • Forklift (counterbalance) licence desirable
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Physically fit and comfortable with manual handling and outdoor work
  • Reliable, flexible, and a strong team player
  • Must Have Driving and forklift licence
