Job Description:

As a Yard Operative / Van Driver / Counter Sales Assistant, you’ll be involved in multiple areas of the branch — from preparing and delivering orders to advising customers at the trade counter. You’ll be a key part of our team, providing top-level service to local tradespeople and DIY customers.

Job Responsibility:

  • Pick and prepare materials for customer orders
  • Load/unload supplier and customer vehicles
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and safe yard
  • Check incoming stock deliveries
  • Deliver building materials to local customer sites
  • Ensure vehicle safety checks are carried out daily
  • Secure and protect loads during transport
  • Represent Buildit professionally on the road and at sites
  • Serve customers and process sales using tills
  • Offer product advice and support
  • Upsell products and current promotions
  • Keep the trade counter clean, tidy, and well-stocked

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in builders merchants or a similar environment (preferred)
  • Full UK driving licence (essential)
  • Forklift licence (preferred, but training can be provided)
  • Basic computer and till operation skills
  • Good product knowledge of building materials (desirable)
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Physically fit and comfortable with manual handling tasks
  • Reliable, punctual, and a team player
