Job Description:

Located in one of the nation’s most iconic and dynamic cities, the University of Denver Sturm College of Law has a long and distinguished tradition in experiential education. The law school features a DU Bar Success program for graduates of Denver Law to aid in bar preparation studies with numerous practice problems utilizing bar exam materials. The program features workshops, mock bar exams, individualized feedback, and coaching. We provide a team of writing advisers to provide comments for improvement (instead of feedback, we call it feedforward) on every bar essay and performance test submitted from our program. We also provide one-on-one coaching to help graduates keep on track and make the most of the learning experience. The Sturm College of Law seeks to hire part-time (hourly, non-benefited) Writing Advisers to advance the DU Bar Success Program through coaching and feedback, working with bar takers, law students, and recent graduates as they prepare for bar exams. This is an hourly, non-benefited position not to exceed 1,000 hours in a calendar year.

Job Responsibility:

  • Work closely with and support the Program Director and Assistant Director
  • Provide individualized feedback to answers submitted by students from mock bar exams and workshops

Requirements:

  • A JD or equivalent legal degree
  • Licensed to practice law in any jurisdiction
  • Outstanding written and oral communications skills
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Prior experience in legal practice or academic support where high-level legal writing and analysis were primary job functions
  • Mastery of Microsoft Office Suite (specifically "Track Changes" and "Comments" in Word) and comfort navigating Learning Management Systems (LMS) such as Canvas

Nice to have:

  • Experience in higher education, teaching, instructional design, cognitive science, counseling, and affiliated fields
  • Licensed to practice law in Colorado
