Our Corporate Fleet Unit (CFU) within Gloucestershire County Council is now an established and forward‑thinking department, continually evolving as we modernise how we manage, maintain, procure and innovate across our diverse fleet — including the highly specialised operational fleet of Gloucestershire Fire & Rescue Service (GFRS).
Job Responsibility:
Servicing and repairing HGV, LGV and passenger cars, including statutory inspections
Inspecting, servicing and repairs of specialist fleet equipment
Diagnostic investigations across light and heavy fleet & equipment
Mobile maintenance, travelling across the county to keep GCC and GFRS vehicles roadworthy
Working on fire appliances, pumps, boats, and specialist rescue equipment
Servicing portable power units, lighting rigs and hydraulic/pneumatic systems
Training on equipment used across the GCC/GFRS fleet
Supporting equipment readiness for front‑line fire appliances
Fabrication, engineering, vehicle conversions, and occasional roadside recovery
Collection and delivery of vehicles as required
Attending and delivering technical training to the wider team
Attending locations to support our on-call and out-of-hour cover
Reporting to the Workshop Supervisor, Workshops Manager & GFRS Control when on-call
Requirements:
Strong diagnostic, service and repair experience
Ability to prioritise and manage workloads effectively
Flexibility and a methodical approach
Excellent communication and teamwork
Experience working within a busy workshop (desirable)
Good level of physical fitness and mobility for vehicle access
Ability to support 24/365 call‑out cover for GFRS, taking part in standby rota
Right to work that enables commitment to at least 6 months employment
