Job Description

Technical Services builds the Shopify that runs Shopify by designing, building, and operating the internal systems that connect and power the business. As a Manager of the Technical Services team, you'll be at the heart of architecting, implementing, and supporting the critical infrastructure that powers Shopify’s office spaces. Your role encompasses the full spectrum of our internal technology ecosystem - from maintaining reliable network infrastructure that connects our Shopify Spaces to troubleshooting AV systems that enable seamless collaboration. Your day-to-day will be dynamic and ever-changing as you lead the team that provides technical infrastructure and support on-site, remotely and at events. You'll proactively prevent, detect, and respond to both network performance issues and AV system challenges while creating and maintaining documentation for the wide array of interconnected systems and software that power our internal operations. Beyond day-to-day support, you'll contribute to ongoing projects that build and enhance the integrated AV and network infrastructure in new Shopify spaces. We're looking for someone who's passionate about technology, has people leadership experience, and thrives in a collaborative environment where you'll power Shopify with solutions both commercially available and internally developed.

  • Partner closely with IT, Real Estate, and other stakeholder teams to align on priorities and roadmaps
  • Demonstrated vendor management experience
  • Experience in supporting company-sponsored internal and external events of varying size
  • Manage project deliverables and prioritize tasks across project phases
  • Standardize the in-office and virtual collaboration experience: define room standards, manage AV/Network lifecycle and monitoring/alerts
  • Monitor network health using advanced telemetry and create insightful dashboards
  • Support Shopify-sponsored internal and external events alongside your team
  • Deploy, test, and maintain AV & network infrastructure both remotely and on-site
  • Automate workflows using tools like Ansible, NetBox, and Git/GitHub Actions
  • Tackle network issues with creative problem-solving and offer top-notch user support
  • Conduct performance analysis and quality control through rigorous testing
  • Stay at the technological frontier, continuously exploring new workplace technology advancements

Requirements

  • Experience with tools like Google Workspace and Google Meet
  • Strong knowledge of video streaming technologies and signal flows
  • Knowledge of industry standards, manufacturers, and technologies used in office
  • Experience designing and operating enterprise-level networks
  • Mastery of networking protocols and services: IPv4/IPv6, TCP/UDP, OSPF, BGP, and VRFs
  • Skilled in network automation using Ansible and infrastructure-as-code with Terraform
  • Ability to produce high-quality technical documentation and collaborate across teams
  • Willingness to travel globally (20% of time)
