Supervises and works alongside a small group of mechanics, technicians, and/or laborers within a garage setting. Assigns and prioritizes work related to the maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of municipal vehicles and equipment; enforces safety regulations; maintains discipline; and ensures adherence to established shop procedures and industry standards. Coordinates and oversees preventative maintenance schedules, equipment inspections, and repair work on a wide range of fleet assets, including light-duty vehicles, heavy equipment, and specialized municipal machinery. Diagnoses mechanical issues, assists with complex repairs, and ensures timely completion of work to minimize equipment downtime. Responsible for ordering and tracking parts, tools, and supplies; maintaining service records; and ensuring proper use and care of shop equipment. Reviews work in progress and upon completion for accuracy, safety, and compliance with accepted mechanical and trade practices. The working foreman must possess strong technical knowledge and hands-on skill in automotive and heavy equipment repair. In all cases, performs the same type of work as those supervised and provides guidance, training, and support to staff as needed.

Requirements:
Graduation from high school
Three years or more of relevant experience, or a combination that enables performance of all aspects of the position and ability to effectuate results for wide variety of problems in a particular type of work
Must possess valid Massachusetts Class B Operator’s License (CDL)
Class 2A Hoisting License
Licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Public Safety, preferred
Demonstrate skill in operation of equipment
