Job Description:

As a Working Chargehand at FCC Environment, you will play a key role in supporting the waste collection service, working both as part of the frontline crew and assisting the Service Delivery Manager and Supervisors. This is a practical role where you will not only carry out driving and loading duties, but also help manage day-to-day operations, staff deployment, compliance, and customer service.

Job Responsibility:

  • Supporting the service by carrying out loader/driver duties when required
  • Responding to customer queries and requests, and conducting site visits
  • Assisting with the deployment of crews at the start and end of the day
  • Ensuring all operations are compliant with health & safety standards, company policies, and waste management legislation
  • Supporting supervisors with daily and weekly audits, paperwork, and staff communications
  • Delivering toolbox talks and helping with staff training
  • Carrying out accident reporting and assisting with investigations when required
  • Motivating the team to meet operational objectives while maintaining safe systems of work

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in the waste industry (essential)
  • A valid driving licence
  • Effective organisational and planning skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A team-focused attitude and the ability to motivate others
  • Strong attention to detail with honest and trustworthy conduct
  • Excellent timekeeping and reliability

  • Undertake horticultural operations (hedge trimming, shrub bed maintenance, planting, strimming, blowing, hard surface maintenance, tree maintenance, chemical application, garden clearance, general landscape works)
  • Removing litter, emptying litter/dog bins and clearing leaves
  • Carryout Groundsman duties in accordance with best practice
  • Ensure lower graded members of staff understand instructions and work as a team
  • Undertake activities utilising craft skills, e.g. site preparation and construction
  • Operate ride-on mowers and pedestrian mowers
  • Use a range of tools and equipment, including power tools and light plants
  • Drive company vehicles/tow trailers as required
  • Assisting the Chargehand to carry out the requirements of the contract
