Job Description

We are partnering with a well-established defense-side law firm in Oakland seeking a Workers’ Compensation Legal Assistant to join the team on a contract-to-hire basis. This position is fully onsite and offers the opportunity to support a busy practice handling a high-volume workers’ compensation caseload. The team is looking for someone who is organized, proactive, and comfortable working in a fast-paced litigation environment.

Job Responsibility

  • Provide day-to-day administrative and legal support to attorneys handling workers’ compensation defense matters
  • Draft, format, and file legal documents, including pleadings, correspondence, and discovery
  • Manage and maintain case files, ensuring accuracy and organization of both physical and electronic records
  • Handle e-filing with the WCAB and coordinate service of documents
  • Calendar deadlines, hearings, depositions, and appointments with strong attention to detail
  • Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, medical providers, and court personnel
  • Assist with preparing for hearings, depositions, and trial-related activities
  • Track case status and follow up on outstanding items as needed

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience as a legal assistant within workers’ compensation defense
  • Familiarity with WCAB procedures, filings, and terminology
  • Strong calendaring and deadline management skills in a litigation setting
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and case management systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Reliable and comfortable working onsite full-time in Oakland
