We are looking for a Workers' Compensation Associate to join a busy employment law defense practice in Anaheim, California. This contract position has the potential to become permanent and is ideal for an attorney who is comfortable managing files independently while working in a team-oriented legal environment. The role offers meaningful ownership of matters from initial assignment through resolution, along with hybrid flexibility and structured onboarding support.
Job Responsibility
Oversee a substantial workers’ compensation caseload and drive each matter forward from opening through final resolution
Represent clients throughout the life of a claim, including case evaluation, hearing preparation, appearances, negotiation, and settlement execution
Maintain accurate and organized file documentation using electronic case management tools and internal tracking systems
Review incoming correspondence promptly, identify priority items, and take timely action to keep matters progressing
Manage deadlines effectively and advance cases in line with expected litigation milestones and reporting timelines
Work closely with legal support staff to coordinate filings, scheduling, document preparation, and day-to-day case administration
Collaborate with internal appellate resources when elevated legal issues or post-decision support are required
Requirements
At least 1 year of workers’ compensation defense experience in a law firm or comparable legal setting
Active attorney licensure and the ability to practice in a detail-oriented litigation environment
Demonstrated success handling matters independently from intake through conclusion
Experience with civil litigation tasks such as motion drafting, briefing, and discovery management
Strong organizational skills with the ability to balance a high volume of active matters
Ability to work effectively in a deadline-sensitive practice with shifting priorities
Reliable, self-directed approach and a consistent commitment to high-quality legal work
