We are looking for a Workers' Comp Defense Paralegal to join a legal team in Timonium, Maryland on a contract-to-permanent basis. This position supports attorneys handling workers' compensation defense matters by coordinating case materials, preparing litigation documents, and keeping files organized in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate brings strong knowledge of civil litigation procedures, clear communication skills, and the ability to manage deadlines while handling sensitive information with discretion.
Job Responsibility
Perform legal and factual research to support case strategy and ongoing workers' compensation defense matters
Prepare a range of case documents, including discovery materials, affidavits, exhibits, and other litigation-related filings
Maintain accurate electronic case files, including correspondence, pleadings, and medical documentation, to ensure matters remain organized and up to date
Support attorneys with hearing, trial, and meeting preparation by assembling materials, coordinating exhibits, and tracking outstanding items
File pleadings and related documents with courts and agencies through appropriate electronic or other required submission methods
Review depositions, interrogatory responses, testimony, and records to create clear summaries for attorney use
Communicate with clients and other parties to collect case information, provide status updates, and assist with document follow-up
Examine legal documents for completeness, accuracy, and procedural compliance before submission or distribution
Help manage caseload workflows, legal correspondence, and billable time expectations, including an annual target of 1,200 hours
Requirements
Experience working in civil litigation, workers' compensation defense, or a closely related legal practice area
Strong understanding of legal terminology, court procedures, discovery practices, and electronic filing requirements
Proficiency with legal research resources, case management platforms, Microsoft Office applications, and document management tools
Ability to analyze medical records and other case materials while maintaining a high level of accuracy and organization
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines independently and collaboratively
Demonstrated professionalism, sound judgment, and the ability to protect confidential and sensitive information
Nice to have
Associate or bachelor's degree in paralegal studies or related discipline
Paralegal certification from an accredited or recognized program
