We are looking for a detail-oriented payroll specialist with strong Workday experience to support payroll operations for an organization in the energy and natural resources sector based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This Long-term Contract opportunity is ideal for someone who can balance accurate transaction processing, regulatory compliance, and responsive employee support in a fast-paced environment. The role will contribute to payroll administration, reporting, and audit readiness while helping maintain reliable payroll processes across a range of pay-related programs.
Job Responsibility
Administer payroll activities in Workday, ensuring employee pay is processed accurately and in accordance with established schedules and policies
Review payroll data for completeness and correctness, investigate discrepancies, and resolve issues related to earnings, deductions, benefits, and union-related items
Prepare and validate payroll reports, month-end summaries, and supporting documentation for accounting and finance teams
Support compliance efforts by maintaining audit-ready records and helping ensure adherence to internal controls, statutory requirements, and Sarbanes-Oxley expectations
Coordinate payroll-related accounting entries and reconcile payroll information with general ledger and financial reporting requirements
Respond to employee and stakeholder questions regarding payroll calculations, insurance deductions, pension plans, salary structures, and other pay components
Monitor time and attendance inputs, including data received from timekeeping systems, to promote accurate payroll outcomes
Assist with quality checks, auditing activities, and ongoing process improvements to strengthen payroll accuracy and operational efficiency
Requirements
Hands-on experience administering payroll, including strong working knowledge of Workday Payroll
Understanding of payroll compliance, internal controls, and audit practices within a regulated business environment
Ability to analyze payroll discrepancies, interpret pay-related data, and produce accurate reports and statistics
Familiarity with payroll accounting, including reconciliations, accounting entries, and month-end support activities
Knowledge of employee deductions and pay programs such as insurance, pension plans, union dues, and salary structures
Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage confidential information and maintain high levels of accuracy
Effective communication skills for answering payroll-related questions and working with cross-functional teams
