The Workday Configuration Specialist supports and enhances the Workday platform by configuring, customizing, and governing system functionality to align with organizational and strategic objectives. This role partners closely with HR systems leaders and business stakeholders, responding to end‑user tickets and requests while also contributing to longer‑term and more complex configuration initiatives. As part of a collaborative HR Systems team, this role emphasizes strong user experience, data‑driven decision‑making, and continuous improvement. This position supports six Workday Configuration Leads across multiple Workday modules, with a primary focus on Human Capital Management (HCM) configuration projects. The Workday Configuration Specialist plays a key role in ensuring system stability, scalability, and usability while enabling HR partners to operate efficiently and make informed decisions using high‑quality data.
Job Responsibility:
Configure and maintain Workday functionality to ensure reliable, efficient system performance
Analyze existing configuration against desired functionality to identify gaps, inefficiencies, and improvement opportunities
Implement system enhancements to improve reliability, performance, and scalability
Respond promptly and professionally to tickets, incidents, and service requests
Provide technical guidance, troubleshooting, and consultative support to end users
Communicate clearly on progress, risks, and available options
Conduct regular quality assurance reviews to ensure effective and scalable solutions
Evaluate, document, and maintain team procedures
Facilitate knowledge transfer with end users and partners as needed
Ensure data accuracy and cleanliness through audits, analysis, and transactional review processes
Support daily approval workflows and data validation activities
Maintain governance standards across Workday modules
Support Workday release planning and assess impacts of new functionality
Identify enhancement opportunities tied to new releases
Assist with regression testing and implementation of required changes
Communicate updates and changes clearly to stakeholders
Maintain and contribute to the Workday team knowledge base
Ensure critical documentation and resources are accessible to partners
Promote collaboration and continuous learning across the HR Systems team
Requirements:
3+ years of experience configuring Workday across at least two modules (e.g., Core HCM, Recruiting, Talent & Performance, Absence and Time Tracking)
Experience supporting a mid‑to‑large sized organization
Strong understanding of HR business processes, metrics, and best practices
Proven experience partnering with functional stakeholders to deliver effective configuration solutions
Ability to diagnose and resolve configuration and integration issues through root‑cause analysis and independent testing
Strong organizational, prioritization, and project management skills
High sense of ownership, accountability, and urgency
Resourceful problem‑solver who can navigate challenges independently
Demonstrated ability to manage conflict, influence stakeholders, and deliver excellent customer service
