The Work Study Student will support the Library as a Brain Booth Assistant on the Statesboro Campus beginning Spring 2025. The Library Brain Booth (BB) seeks to introduce the Georgia Southern University community to international scientific research on the effects of mindfulness, attention, and contemplation through hands-on tools and activities in an informal, experiential setting. At the Brain Booth, students can explore the positive impacts that taking an intentional brain break can have on their academic success. The Brain Booth offers biofeedback, sound and light therapy, virtual reality-immersion, coloring and origami, meditation, gaming station and other activities that promote intentional brain breaks and support emotional self-regulation and singular thoughtful focus. The Brain Booth also hosts the mindfulness and contemplative pedagogy books-periodicals-media collection, coloring and origami supplies, a stationary biofeedback machine, pedal desks, full body massage chair, chess table and a meditation corner available at any time during library working hours. Students in this position maintain Brain Booth operations during scheduled weekly drop-in hours.
Job Responsibility:
Sets up and takes down activity stations
Explains, demonstrates, and assists with Brain Booth activities
Checks items in/out as needed
Helps with Brain Booth projects and outreach events
Requirements:
Must be enrolled in six or more undergraduate credit hours at Georgia Southern University
Must be Federal Work eligible
Must maintain Federal Work-Study eligibility
Consistently exhibit engaging customer service
Ability to support various constituencies served by the University
Proficiency with computer and Microsoft Office applications software including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases
Adhere to University policies and procedures to meet Institutional goals and support University's mission for student success
Effective communication (verbal and written), organizational and human relations skills
