The primary responsibility of this position is to oversee the woodyard by training and leading the woodyard team.
Job Responsibility:
Constantly monitor area to ensure compliance of all mill safety procedures and review tasks to prioritize safety
Analyze various means of data to best set priorities needed for the area in addition to suggesting process improvements
Assist in prioritizing work orders and requests for your area by collecting data and presenting it in an understandable manner. Coordinate high-priority tasks with maintenance department leadership
Attend down day planning meetings to prioritize area repairs and improvements
Collaborate with team to complete root cause analysis (RCA) for all downtime events that are greater than 30 minutes or accumulates to more than 2 hours of downtime per month
Assist shift supervisors and leadership with area needs to include safety and housekeeping and fill in as needed
Take ownership of your area by training team members while identifying individual areas of excellence or needed improvement. Motivate and encourage continuous improvement of skills and learning of new skills
Review, update, implement, and administer training manuals, programs, and procedures to include pay for skills
Actively participate in pre-task assessments and non-routine work in assigned area
Coordinate the collection of SSOP, LOTO procedures and safe work practices associated with their area and cataloging of them in CMMS and/or the site SSOP database
Ensure consumable inventories are maintained in their areas
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Site Leadership
Requirements:
Eligible to legally work in the United States
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Wood Science or equivalent combination of education and experience
5+ years’ experience in manufacturing in the wood products industry (OSB, MDF or Plywood preferred)
Must have held a leadership role which included direct reports and process management
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build a team that prioritizes treating one another with respect and dignity
Ability to motivate team members toward task completion while being able to defuse high-tension situations
Project Management skills with a strong mechanical and electrical aptitude
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Advanced computer skills including MS Office software, time management software, and maintenance/work order management software
Ability to make sound decisions while under pressure, facing tight time constraints
Possess a sense of urgency when dealing with time sensitive work tasks
Have an expert knowledge and understanding of woodyard equipment, i.e., cranes, debarkers, stranders/chippers, bin systems, loader operations
Be reliable by possessing consistent and predictable attendance behavior
