Job Description

The Windows File Services Custom Application Engineer role involves providing operational support for enterprise applications, ensuring reliable service delivery and resolving incidents.

Job Responsibility

  • Provide operational support for enterprise applications integrated with Windows File Services, ensuring stable and reliable service delivery
  • Resolve application-related incidents and service requests within agreed SLA timelines, maintaining accurate ticket updates and operational documentation
  • Perform proactive health checks, monitoring, and maintenance of application servers and supporting databases
  • Provide Level 2 support for application issues, performing troubleshooting and root cause analysis to restore service quickly and prevent recurrence
  • Execute minor configuration and standard changes while coordinating patching and upgrades with platform teams
  • Support application lifecycle activities, including pre- and post-change validation, documentation, and coordination with infrastructure teams
  • Operate and maintain Java-based applications running on Glassfish or Payara application servers, including configuration and log analysis
  • Collaborate with development teams to ensure operational readiness during new feature rollouts and releases (operational support, not development)
  • Support applications integrating with REST APIs, job schedulers, message queues, and enterprise services
  • Identify opportunities for automation and operational improvements, working with the Continuous Service Improvement (CSI) team to implement enhancements
  • Ensure all activities comply with security, governance, and audit requirements
  • Support eDiscovery and audit requests by preparing and delivering application data in accordance with defined procedures and compliance guidelines
  • Maintain and improve runbooks, operational documentation, and knowledge base articles to support consistent and efficient service operations
  • Participate in on-call rotations and out-of-hours support for live streaming events and critical service incidents

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience providing operational support for enterprise applications in multi-environment setups (development, test, production)
  • Hands-on experience handling incidents, service requests, monitoring activities, and minor configuration changes in enterprise IT environments
  • Familiarity with Java application stacks, including Glassfish or Payara application servers, with the ability to analyze logs, configurations, and service status
  • Basic understanding of database operations, including Oracle or PostgreSQL fundamentals, such as read-only queries, job monitoring, and backup validation coordination
  • Experience working with REST APIs, integration services, job schedulers, and messaging systems used by enterprise applications
  • Knowledge of PowerShell and SQL for operational checks and troubleshooting tasks
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices, including interaction with deployment pipelines and change processes
  • Basic understanding of Windows network file shares and file service integrations
  • Strong understanding of ITIL processes, including Incident, Request, Change, Problem, and Knowledge Management
  • Experience working with ITSM tools such as ServiceNow for ticket management and operational coordination
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain high-quality documentation, change records, and audit evidence
  • Strong analytical troubleshooting skills and the ability to follow structured runbooks and escalation procedures
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Excellent command of both spoken and written English and German

Nice to have

  • ITIL v4 Foundation certification is a plus
  • DevOps Foundation/Practitioner certification and database fundamentals (Oracle/PostgreSQL) knowledge are advantageous
