Job Description:

Reporting to the Wind Site Lead, the Wind Technician is responsible for assisting in the performance of wind turbine mechanical, hydraulic, and electric component maintenance. The primary objective is to maintain safe, effective, efficient, and profitable wind turbine operation.

Job Responsibility:

  • Follow safety procedures and maintain a safe working environment
  • Assist in the performance of wind turbine mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical component maintenance
  • Document all work performed, parts used, and time spent
  • Assist in troubleshooting and repairing SCADA communication systems
  • Operate and maintain a service vehicle
  • Maintain hand tools
  • Work a flexible on-call schedule when needed
  • Help in all areas of site operations as directed
  • For Level II & III: Troubleshoot complicated mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical problems
  • Assist in the training and development of lower-level personnel
  • Perform all mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical component maintenance, repair, and replacement
  • Read and understand electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
  • Use electrical test equipment
  • Lead maintenance and troubleshooting crews
  • Safely perform LOTO and mentor lower-level technicians
  • Perform balance of plant and switchyard work

Requirements:

  • A high school diploma or GED is required, or willing to obtain within the first 6 months of employment
  • Able to climb towers unassisted up to 300 feet
  • Able to work safely in a confined space
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and good driving record
  • Possess demonstrable mechanical aptitude and basic electrical knowledge
  • Able to work with electrical wires and differentiate between color-coded wires
  • Able to safely work in a wide range of adverse climates and environments
  • Able to travel as required
  • Knowledge of and the ability to use various hand tools
  • Able to communicate verbally and in writing, and able to work without direct supervision
  • Able to create, edit, or modify Microsoft Word and Excel documents
  • Able to meet the requirements of Clearway Energy Group’s Qualified Electrical Worker program
  • For Level II: An Associate’s degree (electrical or technical) and six months of turbine experience, or a high school diploma/GED and one year of wind turbine experience
  • For Level III: An Associate’s degree (electrical or technical) and two years of turbine experience, or a high school diploma/GED and three years of wind turbine experience

Nice to have:

  • Previous experience in SAP is preferred
  • Ability to read schematics and wiring diagrams is preferred
