Job Responsibility:

  • Understand, interpret and apply legislation in relation to wildfires to ensure clear, concise and applicable direction is provided to business groups in alignment to safety governance, roles and responsibilities and documented in Wildfire Risk Management Program requirements
  • Develop program requirements, procedures, and other safety documents, and provide strategic, proactive options for mitigating wildfire risk as it relates to worker safety, public safety, and asset protection
  • Lead program development, implementation, sustainment and assurance using a predefined and consistent process to ensure business group engagement, clear sustainment expectations and on-going alignment to safety governance, roles and responsibilities
  • Engage with multiple stakeholders internal and external to company (such as BC Wildfire Service) to develop and sustain practical, workable solutions to meet asset management, operational and other business needs and to support in meeting its obligations as an Owner and Employer under the Workers Compensation Act and regulations
  • Supporting the Manager, Fire Risk Management and Public Use Risk Management, and associated team members to carry out their program responsibilities
  • Tracking and coordinating reports on performance metrics, including interpreting results and recommending actions

Requirements:

  • Certification as NFPA Wildfire Risk Management Specialist
  • Wildfire mitigation specialist training
  • Post-secondary forestry or resource management education (in progress or completed), a university degree or diploma in occupational health & safety, occupational hygiene, safety engineering, or related field or an equivalent combination of education and related experience
  • Experience with developing training materials using adult education principles
  • Knowledge of BC Wildfire Service weather stations management
  • Experience working with mobile app technology or projects involving IT-based safety solutions
