Job Description

As an Intake Support Officer, you'll provide welfare support and guidance to Junior Soldiers throughout their training at the Army Foundation College.

Job Responsibility

  • Supporting welfare engagement before and during arrival
  • Liaising with local authorities, social workers, foster carers, and guardians
  • Providing guidance and signposting to internal support services (medical, welfare, pastoral)
  • Supporting vulnerable Junior Soldiers and maintaining care plans and welfare records
  • Recording and managing sensitive information using military systems
  • Working with the Chain of Command to provide welfare input and attend meetings
  • Supporting individuals on long-term sick leave, suspension, or discharge pathways
  • Conducting home visits alongside Unit Welfare Officers where required
  • Referring cases to external agencies in line with policy
  • Supporting key events and occasional out-of-hours duties (e.g. intake arrival days)

Requirements

  • Experience supporting young people or vulnerable individuals in a professional setting
  • Understanding of safeguarding frameworks, policies, and escalation processes
  • Confidence managing sensitive cases with empathy and professional boundaries
  • Experience liaising with families, carers, local authorities, or partner agencies
