The Weld Engineer supports the design, development, and deployment of automated welding systems, ensuring equipment meets customer specifications and internal build standards. This role is responsible for establishing weld processes, programming and debugging robotic systems, and validating weld fixtures and automated equipment from power-up through final acceptance. Working cross-functionally with mechanical, electrical, and build teams, the engineer serves as a technical subject matter expert, supports quoting and project planning, and communicates progress, risks, and budget considerations to stakeholders. The position requires strong customer collaboration, technical expertise in automated welding technologies, and the ability to support projects through travel and hands-on on-site support.
Job Responsibility:
Assist in design of weld fixtures
Coordinate or assist in weld fixture validation
Establish weld process parameters for equipment
Setup various types of welding equipment for automation purposes
Design, implement and document control systems for various types of automated equipment
Conduct robotic programming, coordinate in machine debug, power-up, and machine validation
Work with the appropriate build and electrical teams to ensure proper installation and use of weld equipment
Ensure that equipment is designed and programmed to customer and/or JR Automation build specifications using standard techniques and approach
Ability to serve as a subject matter expert
Ability to quote time and equipment to customers process specifications
Work cross functionally with all departments during all phases of the project
Support, promote, and execute company initiatives
Communicate open issues, milestones, timing, hours, and budget concerns to the appropriate stakeholders
Ability to work side by side and maintain positive customers relationships
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree from 4‐year College or university in related engineering field, or three years related experience and/or training in the welding automation field
Exposure to automated welding, prefer GMAW, RSW, LBW
Computer skills including – Excel, Word, Outlook
Basic understanding of part GD&T
Proficient at interpreting weld specifications
Ability to work on ITAR related weld projects
Travel is approximately 25%. This may include domestic and international travel depending on the project.
