Job Description

The Nelson Trust is a charity dedicated to supporting people affected by addiction and trauma to build safer, more stable futures. Within our residential women’s service in Stroud, we offer trauma-informed care in a structured, supportive environment where recovery can begin and lives can be rebuilt.

Job Responsibility

  • Being a consistent and reassuring presence, helping clients feel safe and supported throughout the day
  • Encouraging engagement in weekend activities, groups and recovery-focused work
  • Supporting everyday needs, from wellbeing to practical tasks such as medication and appointments
  • Facilitating check-ins, house meetings and reflective work to maintain connection to recovery
  • Responding calmly to challenges, ensuring a safe and respectful environment for all clients

Requirements

  • Ability to work a fixed weekend rota (8am–4:30pm), providing consistency when clients need it most
  • A full driving licence and willingness to transport clients when required
  • The ability to build trusting relationships while maintaining clear and consistent boundaries
  • Understanding of addiction, trauma or working with people experiencing adversity
  • A calm, steady approach, with the confidence to respond thoughtfully to challenges
  • Strong communication skills and a willingness to learn and develop
