Job Description:

Overnight Counselor - Veteran Support Program. Schedule: 3 nights/week, 10-hour shifts (Fri/Sat/Sun: 9:00p - 7:00a). Join an organization serving homeless Veterans who may not yet be committed to full abstinence or recovery. Provide trauma-informed, harm-reduction services overnight, ensuring safety and support for participants. Must remain awake for the entire shift.

Job Responsibility:

  • Deliver substance use counseling and crisis intervention during overnight hours
  • Respond to emergencies and assist participants as issues arise
  • Communicate overnight updates to daytime staff for continuity of care
  • Maintain positive relationships with staff, VA liaison, and community partners
  • Ensure compliance with program guidelines and professional standards
  • Participate in supervision and provide coverage for other low-threshold programs as needed

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 3+ years' experience in case management, substance abuse, mental health, or related fields
  • Strong crisis intervention and de-escalation skills
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and remain awake overnight
  • Must work collaboratively with VA staff and community agencies
  • Ability to gather and report data accurately and maintain participant records
  • Reliability and commitment to scheduled shifts are essential
