The Watershed Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all watershed maintenance activities within Veolia New Jersey land assets. Design and implementation of reforestation plans. Adhere to forestry stewardship plan. Interact with customers and formally assess hazardous tree complaints. Manage work orders and associated workflow of corrective and preventive maintenance activities.
Job Responsibility:
Responsible for overseeing all watershed maintenance activities within Veolia New Jersey land assets
Design and implementation of reforestation plans
Adhere to forestry stewardship plan
Interact with customers and formally assess hazardous tree complaints
Manage work orders and associated workflow of corrective and preventive maintenance activities
Responsible for the maintenance of all company property and facilities
Assigns work to subordinates and assures the availability of equipment needed to complete assignments
Must be able to interoperate land surveys and parcel maps, for land ownership designation
Responsible for providing oversight of contracted services on Watershed property
Responsible for property maintenance such as landscape work, tree work, fence installations and repair, storm drain installations, service road and parking lot construction and snow removal
Supports reservoir treatment activities
Maintains active liaison with several outside agencies as well as departments within the company
Coordinates and supervises the spraying of pesticides
Support Corporate recycling/green initiatives program
Interact with residents and community leaders regarding watershed issues
Maintains liaison with several major contractors on large projects
Assists other departments by supplying vehicles, pumps, gas mixers, portable generator, or other equipment as needed
Provides assistance to the Engineering Department
Provides staffing and support to operations during times of exceptional system demands
Prepares and presents training programs to subordinates on job duties and safety procedures
Serves on emergency duty to resolve operational problems
Participates on the Veolia NJ Emergency Response Team
Maintains oil and waste spill equipment, responds to requests for cleanup or containment of oil and waste spills
Maintains equipment used for disinfection of clear wells, tanks or other similar structures, and carries out the disinfection procedures
Maintains equipment and makes applications of chemicals used in treating the water supply reservoirs for algae control
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science or Forestry
Minimum of 10 years related work experience in forestry or project management
Must be able to efficiently manage several crews simultaneously performing different tasks
Must be experienced in land maintenance including tree work, excavation, brush clearing, road maintenance, and fence repairs
Must be able to operate or understand heavy equipment such as a backhoe, bulldozer, skid-steer, work barge, and boats
Must be competent in basic computing
Assist in maintaining the department budget
Maintain a NJDMV Boaters endorsement license
Certified Forester, Licensed Tree Care Expert or Arborist
Must be able to lift 50 lbs
Sitting at a desk or conference table for long periods of time is required
Must be able to traverse rugged undeveloped terrain
Must be able to operate or ride on a boat
Nice to have:
Experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) is desirable
