The head lifeguard handles overseeing the aquatic area and providing work direction to staff while on duty. This individual responds to incidents, emergencies and interacts with parents and participants. The individual provides an elevated level of guest service and ensures the safety of the guests and team members and a positive environment. As a head lifeguard, it is expected that they uphold themselves to a standard that allows others to look towards them for guidance and leadership. It is expected that all head lifeguards respect one another, and work as a team. Clear, and respectful communication is necessary to have an effective team effort. This allows consistency in expectation with the lifeguards being overseen. Ensures that they are performing all job duties in compliance with all rules and regulations and that all company expectations are supported.
Job Responsibility
Handles overseeing the aquatic area and providing work direction to staff while on duty
Responds to incidents, emergencies and interacts with parents and participants
Provides an elevated level of guest service and ensures the safety of the guests and team members and a positive environment
Maintains constant surveillance of guests and team members in the facility
Acts at once and appropriately to secure the safety of guests in case of an emergency
Serves as first level contact responding and documenting incidents
May provide and or help with implementation of in-service trainings sessions
Aids with keeping a safe aquatic area, which may include providing work direction to staff, providing real time feedback, and noting suggestions and comments for their manager’s review
Coordinates lifeguard placement and rotations during shift to ensure efficient guarding and safety
To present a professional appearance and attitude always and keep a high standard of guest service
Exhibits ability to effectively deal with internal and external guests and team members
Performs various maintenance duties as directed to keep a clean and safe environment
Performs other duties as assigned by management
Monitors all relevant activities of the department, to ensure that all applicable laws, rules, regulations, and controls of the organization are understood and enforced
Performs all duties per company team member handbook, objectives of the Otoe Missouria Tribe, internal policies, procedures, and controls, as well as applicable laws
Maintains the Departmental Shift log(s) reviewing and noting any unusual occurrences, incidents, equipment failures, safety issues, disputes, etc.
Forms opinions and makes decisions based on information and the identification of available facts
Makes decisions or draws conclusions using available data and from experience
Avoid situations that could be considered illegal or represent a safety hazard
Makes effort to keep informed of company information and communications by reviewing property bulletin boards, departmental log/shift reports, departmental/company emails, signage, and company newsletter.
Requirements
Must be at least 18 years of age
Prefer two years’ experience related to the duties and responsibilities specified
CPR Certified
Current certification as a lifeguard by a recognized source of training
Must be punctual and dependable
Must be able to work both indoors and out and be exposed to prevalent weather
Must keep lifeguard certification level of physical and mental readiness
Must be able to visually see all sections and assigned zone or area of responsibility
Must be able to adequately hear noises and distinguish distress signals
Must have the ability to still be alert and keep concentration for extended periods of time
Must be able to show initiative in the absence of supervision
Must be able to relate to and work with diverse groups of people
Read, write, and speak the English language
Protect the Company’s value by keeping information confidential
Perform assigned tasks under supervision
Follow written and verbal instructions

Swim 50 yards in 4 ft. water and retrieve 10 lbs. from bottom of water
Must be able to lift at least 20 lbs. and push, pull or drag up to 50 lbs. and up to 100 lbs.
