The Wellesley Water Department is seeking a motivated engineering student for an internship opportunity. Under the supervision of the Water Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, and Water Analyst, the intern will assist department personnel in various water system management tasks. This position provides valuable hands-on experience in municipal water operations, data collection, and engineering-related projects.
Job Responsibility:
Assist with surveying assignments related to water system infrastructure
Utilize Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Global Positioning Systems (GPS) for system mapping and data collection
Support data collection and analysis efforts to enhance water system efficiency
Participate in civil engineering activities, including reviewing infrastructure components and assisting with design considerations
Work collaboratively with water department personnel on projects related to water quality, distribution, and system maintenance
Conduct fieldwork, including site inspections and system assessments
Prepare reports, maps, and presentations summarizing project findings
Perform other duties as assigned to support department operations
Requirements:
Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field
Basic knowledge of GIS/GPS applications is preferred
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team
Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
Willingness to work in an outdoor environment and conduct fieldwork as needed
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and basic engineering software is a plus
Nice to have:
