Job Description:

The Water Safety Manager is responsible for overseeing and implementing safety protocols related to water-based activities and facilities. The Water Safety Manager ensures the safety of swimmers, boaters, and other individuals who may be exposed to water-related risks. The Water Safety Manager conducts safety meetings, audits, and inspections to ensure compliance, evaluate performance, identify corrective action, and implement follow up assessments. The Water Safety Manager plans, implements, and conducts preventative care, safety, and compliance training programs.

Job Responsibility:

  • Developing and implementing safety policies
  • Responsible for creating and enforcing safety policies and procedures to minimize the risk of accidents and injuries in and around water
  • Developing emergency response plans, establishing rules for swimming areas, and ensuring compliance with local regulations
  • Design and deliver training programs for lifeguards and other staff, focusing on water safety, emergency response, and customer service
  • Responsible for training and supervising lifeguards, lifeguard instructors, lifeguard supervisors or other personnel involved in water-related activities
  • Ensuring that staff members are professionally trained in water rescue techniques, CPR, first aid, and other relevant skills
  • Coordinate regular water safety drills and emergency response exercises to ensure readiness for various emergency scenarios
  • Evaluate drill performance and implement improvements as needed
  • Responsible for educating the public about water safety practices and promoting awareness of potential risks associated with water activities
  • Recruit, train, and manage the lifeguard team, ensuring all staff are certified and proficient in lifesaving techniques, CPR, and first aid
  • Schedule lifeguards to ensure appropriate coverage and maintain high levels of vigilance and preparedness
  • Assess potential hazards associated with water activities and take measures to mitigate risks
  • Ensure that in the event of an accident or emergency, responsible for coordinating the response efforts, including initiating rescue procedures, providing first aid, and contacting emergency services as needed
  • Ensuring the safety of individuals who engage in water related activities, and their job involves a combination of administrative, supervisory, and hands-on responsibilities
  • Oversee the scheduling, rotations, and projects of the Water Safety Department
  • Adhere and ensure compliance with all environmental policies and procedures
  • Oversee supply orders and distribution for the Water Safety Department
  • Remain updated on professional knowledge by participating in continuous self-development
  • Liaise with the Human Resources Department on employment needs
  • Provide monthly Departmental reports on assignments, projects, Departmental needs, and accomplishments
  • Oversee the regular inspection and maintenance of water facilities, such as pools, water parks, or waterfront areas, to ensure that they meet safety standards and are in good working condition

Requirements:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Management, Water Safety, or a related field preferred
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in water safety or lifeguarding, with at least 3 years in a managerial or supervisory role
  • Experience in a resort or hospitality environment is highly desirable
  • Administrative experience preferred
  • Must be StarGuard Elite Two (2) Star Instructor or Higher
  • Current certifications in lifeguarding, CPR, and first aid required
  • Additional certifications in advanced lifesaving techniques, water safety instruction, or emergency response preferred
  • Fluency in conversational English
  • Guest Facing Experience
  • Customer service experience gained in a similar role is required
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities and a commitment to maintaining high safety standards
