Job Description

A leading multidisciplinary engineering and design firm is seeking a Water Resources Engineer, PE to manage stormwater, floodplain, and dam safety projects for a variety of public and private clients. This role offers excellent opportunities for professional growth in a collaborative environment focused on technical excellence and teamwork. The Water Resources Engineer, PE will supervise at least one direct report and serve as a technical mentor to other design engineers.

Job Responsibility

  • Lead design of all types of stormwater management (SWM) facilities
  • Oversee construction inspections and administration for SWM and related projects
  • Develop and implement stormwater operation and maintenance programs for large assets
  • Model and analyze FEMA and local floodplains
  • design large culvert/bridge crossings
  • Manage state-regulated dam projects including breach studies, permitting, inspections, and emergency action plans
  • Prepare SWM concept plans, H&H models, construction documents, and technical reports
  • Coordinate with regulators to address comments and secure approvals
  • Oversee contracts, proposals, project budgets, schedules, and client relationships
  • Supervise and mentor engineering staff as a Water Resources Engineer, PE

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field
  • Licensed Water Resources Engineer, PE in Virginia (or ability to obtain within 6 months)
  • 6+ years of professional experience in water resources engineering
  • Strong knowledge of stormwater, floodplain, and dam safety regulations
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and H&H modeling software (HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, HEC-1, HY-8, Flowmaster)
  • Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers in a Water Resources Engineer, PE role

Nice to have

  • Proficiency with ArcMap or similar GIS software
  • Experience developing proposals for water resources projects
