The WATER QUALITY INTERN role within the organization will take on projects from initiation to completion during the extent of their time with the team. The successful candidate will have visibility across many functional groups (water quality, engineering, operations, maintenance, etc.) and will continuously observe safety guidelines , follow standard operating procedures, and assist with process improvement projects. This is an excellent opportunity for a student who is interested in water quality and/or environmental sciences to get hands-on industry experience in municipal water, and to be introduced to different careers in the water industry.
Job Responsibility:
Works with water quality staff on monitoring and compliance projects while following established protocols and standard operating procedures
Executes other tasks directly related to functional projects and/or process improvements
Communicates issues and roadblocks related to areas of responsibility to supervisors in a timely manner
May be asked to analyze water quality data using computer software, produce findings, draw conclusions, and prepare oral and written recommendations to management
Requirements:
High School Diploma/GED is required
Working towards a four-year degree and you are a rising Sophomore, Junior, Senior or in recent grad status in a related major (Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Geology, Oceanography, etc.)
Minimum of a 3.0 Cumulative G.P.A preferred
Have an interest in environmental science and water quality in an applied industry
Strong communication skills, including written, verbal, listening, presentation and facilitation skills
Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships
Ability to participate in fieldwork in various weather conditions
Ability to participate in laboratory work at water treatment plants
Ability to use Microsoft excel and/or google sheets to analyze data
Be a self-starter, have attention to detail, be able to work independently and as part of a team, and be an excellent communicator
Valid Driver’s License is required
Ability to wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE)
Ability to walk, sit, stand for extended periods of time
Ability to carry 25 lbs
Ability to climb ladders and stairs
Ability to work on a boat
