Monitors reverse osmosis units and ancillary equipment parameters
Makes adjustments to water plant equipment ensuring operation guidelines are followed
Starts, operates and secures reverse osmosis units and all associated auxiliary equipment essential to water plant operation
Monitors Water Plant chemistry making chemical adjustments as necessary
Maintains cleanliness of water plant
Willingness to carry a radio or pager for after hour’s call out’s
Responds to unscheduled equipment or process failures
Ensures efficient and economical operation of station water production equipment
Completes maintenance records
maintains laboratory and operating logbooks and databases as required
Maintains control of plant tools, manuals, repair parts, assemblies and consumables
Maintains inventory accuracy at 98% or better
Works closely with and takes direction from the Operator in Responsible Charge (ORC) and coordinates in ordering repair and/or spare parts, maintenance parts, assemblies and consumables
Advises the Lead Water Plant Operator of the status of water production equipment and systems
Works a rotating shift

Performs duties in support of division metrics (as provided by supervisor)
Supports the achievement of ASC metrics, whether metrics are directly or indirectly, affected by this position’s work activities

Evaluates job hazards and communicates information to staff verbally and in writing through various venues, including weekly and/or daily crew meetings
Interprets project tasking utilizing design drawings, specifications and diagrams
Communicates professionally, both orally and in writing, with their superiors and peers as needed to relay information they need in order to be successful in their jobs
May be required to work outside on various jobsites in extreme cold weather and environmentally challenging conditions
Interacts with other partner companies, the National Science Foundation, military and other agency officials, both over the telephone and in person
Participate in dormitory chores while deployed to Antarctica
Performs other duties as required
Requirements:
High School diploma or GED
Colorado Class “D” Certification (or other states’ equivalent). A minimum of six months experience working as an Operator in a Water Treatment Facility will be accepted in lieu of a Class D certificate
Mechanical aptitude with the ability to handle multiple tasks at once
Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices applied in the maintenance and operation of reverse osmosis water treatment plants
Thorough knowledge of the methods, hazards, and safety precautions related to reverse osmosis water treatment plants
Ability to maintain a professional attitude and to work efficiently in a stressful environment
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office
Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods
Successful completion of Medical and Dental examinations required by the NSF for deployment to Antarctica
Successful completion of Federal Background Check required by the NSF
Must be willing and able to lift and move items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum
Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors in extreme cold
Must participate in community programs, such as “house-mouse” (chores), “daisy-picking” (cleaning-up around the station), recycling efforts & safety objectives
Valid Driver’s License issued in the United States
Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization
US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location
Nice to have:

Previous experience with remote Polar Logistics operations
Colorado Class “C” Certification (or other states’ equivalent)
One year of experience in water production/treatment operations
