Are you ready to join a dynamic team where your proactiveness and management prowess can translate directly into tangible outcomes in the research field? We are looking for up to five water and climate risk modelers for short-term assignments lasting from three to six months, or longer in exceptional circumstances, to work with our team and actively contribute to RAAS activities. The selected researchers will have the opportunity to: Contribute to ongoing international and European research projects in the fields of climate adaptation, risk assessment, and nature-based solutions; Conduct their own research, consistent with the duration of the assignment and aligned with our research priorities, while engaging closely with our team members and specialists.
Job Responsibility:
Contribute to ongoing international and European research projects addressing key challenges in climate adaptation, risk assessment, and nature-based solutions, while working within a dynamic and multidisciplinary team that bridges science and policy
Enrich their research experience by engaging with experts from diverse scientific backgrounds and by participating in collaborative initiatives that integrate physical, environmental, and socio-economic perspectives
Develop and implement their own research project or topic of interest, proposed in collaboration with the RAAS staff, ensuring alignment with the unit’s research priorities and the duration of the assignment
Benefit from an intellectually stimulating environment that fosters exchange of ideas, exposure to international research networks, and the development of transferable skills relevant to both academic and applied research careers
Requirements:
PhD degree (or be in the final stage of PhD studies) in Hydrology, Water Resources, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Climate Risk Assessment, Mathematics, Physics, or related fields
Background and/or experience in one or more of the following areas: Hydrological Modelling, Hydraulic Modelling, Numerical Modelling, Analysis of Large Datasets, Flood Risk Assessment, GIS and Remote Sensing, Extreme Value Statistics, Climate services development, Assessment of the adaptation effectiveness or related topics
Experience in European funded research projects is an asset
Quantitative and programming skills (ideally in R or Python)
Very good knowledge of English (working language at CMCC/RAAS)
Applicants are requested to submit, together with their CV and motivation letter, a one-page research plan describing the work they would like to carry out during the assignment, ensuring it is realistic and compatible with its duration
