Job Description

The Water Manager is a senior estates role responsible for the strategic and operational management of all water systems across the Dudley hospital site. The post holder will ensure full regulatory compliance, effective risk management, and the highest standards of water safety to protect patients, staff, and visitors. This role carries significant accountability for Legionella control and water hygiene governance within a complex healthcare environment.

Job Responsibility

  • Act as the Responsible Person (Water) in accordance with ACOP L8 and HTM 04-01
  • Lead the development, implementation, and ongoing review of the Water Safety Plan and Water Safety Risk Assessments
  • Chair the Water Safety Group, providing expert leadership and assurance to senior management
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, healthcare technical guidance, and local policies
  • Provide day-to-day and strategic oversight of all hospital water systems
  • Develop, manage, and continuously improve Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and remedial works programmes
  • Contribute to long-term asset planning and lifecycle replacement strategies
  • Ensure effective monitoring, sampling, and testing regimes are in place
  • Review and interpret results, identifying trends, risks, and areas for improvement
  • Maintain robust, auditable records to support internal and external inspections
  • Lead investigations into water-related incidents, non-compliance, or system failures
  • Implement emergency response procedures and corrective actions
  • Prepare detailed reports for senior leadership, regulators, and auditors

Requirements

  • Relevant qualification in building services engineering, water hygiene, or estates management
  • Significant experience managing water systems in a hospital, healthcare, or similarly regulated environment
  • In-depth knowledge of ACOP L8, HTM 04-01, and Legionella control
  • Experience acting as Responsible Person (Water) or Deputy RP
  • Proven experience managing contractors, audits, and compliance documentation
