This is a great opportunity to work for a major name in the utilities industry within a company that offers fantastic progression opportunities. This client is an Independent Distribution Network Operator (IDNO) that has over 2 million connections across the UK. The business has also won awards for being one of the top 10 companies the UK to work for too. You’ll join the business as a Water Design Engineer and support them on their potable water network designs as well as helping to complete design details, calculations and civil works for these projects too. Reporting to the Senior Design Engineer, you will work closely with other teams to meet customer and business requirements to help support and grow the business as a whole.

Job Responsibility

  • Undertake water designs as instructed by the Senior Design Engineer
  • Ensure planning and design work is in accordance with customer and business requirements and meet overall company objectives
  • Work closely with Business Development, ESO’s and Designers to develop tender, design and construction designs to fully meet customer and business requirements, identifying and delivering strategies to deliver work within project timescales and budgets
  • Be creative in finding solutions to resource/schedule problems to maintain project delivery programme and escalate to the appropriate person
  • Fulfilling the role as a Designer as well as taking responsibility for all assigned resources acting with the delegated authority of the Senior Design Engineer
  • Maintain awareness of HSEQ policies and procedures and ensure the office is a maintained as a safe place to work
  • Ensure ‘Safety by Design’ through a Design Risk Assessment Process
  • Promptly record all accidents and near misses
  • proactively manage HSEQ issues & concerns, working closely with Construction teams to ensure safety by design and an accident and incident free culture is maintained
  • Liaise with colleagues across the business organisation to ensure effective delivery of tasks and to ensure project objectives are understood and met

Requirements

  • Degree in relevant engineering subject or industry experience
  • Experience working on development sites or undertaking water connection designs
  • Knowledge of engineering principles
  • Knowledge of health and safety legislation
  • Working knowledge of EPANET, Synergi or equivalent (desirable)
  • Proficient in using AutoCAD
