Job Description

The main purpose of the Water Design Engineer role is to undertake WIRS design and planning associated with the construction and installation of new contestable water connections for residential and industrial/commercial developments.

Job Responsibility

  • To design water connection schemes in accordance with Engineering directives
  • Produce effective water design drawings for all aspects of the project
  • Design self-lay water connections to engineering standards, which includes the Water Company’s design manual, code of practice for the self-laying of water mains/ services and the water supply regulations
  • Make site visits to establish detailed information relevant to the design and planning of a project
  • Manage own portfolio of design work, on time and within budget
  • Liaise with and support the team on technical and planning matters to ensure efficient project delivery

Requirements

  • Previous experience of designing new water networks
  • Understanding of the Self-Lay/NAV market
  • Water Network Modelling Software (WaterGems or similar)
  • Knowledge of engineering codes, regulations, standards and specifications

  • Maintain awareness of HSEQ policies and procedures and ensure the office is a maintained as a safe place to work
  • Ensure ‘Safety by Design’ through a Design Risk Assessment Process
  • Promptly record all accidents and near misses
  • proactively manage HSEQ issues & concerns, working closely with Construction teams to ensure safety by design and an accident and incident free culture is maintained
  • Liaise with colleagues across the business organisation to ensure effective delivery of tasks and to ensure project objectives are understood and met
