Job Description:

The town of Somerset seeks applicants for the position of Water department Distribution Laborer for manual and semi-skilled work in the maintenance of the Water department, water mains, service installations, hydrant maintenance and related work.

Job Responsibility:

  • Manual and semi-skilled work in the maintenance of the Water department
  • Maintenance of water mains, service installations, hydrant maintenance and related work
  • Must be available after hours to respond to emergency situations involving water main and service breaks

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One to three years of related experience
  • Valid Class D Driver’s License
  • Mechanical ability pertaining to plumbing or combination of equivalent education and experience
  • Familiarity with techniques of water distribution maintenance and use of repair equipment
  • Working knowledge of Department of Environmental Protection Agency regulations as they pertain the position
  • Knowledge of relevant Massachusetts General Laws related to essential functions
  • Moderate to strenuous physical effort required in the field under variable weather conditions and with some exposure to personal danger in the performance of their duties
