At Grundon, we are on the lookout for a dynamic, passionate, and driven Waste Operative/ Yard Labourer to join our Special Events team based in Knowl Hill . Reporting into the Transport Manager you will play a key role in driving our mission forward by supporting the efficient running of the clinical waste facility by sorting and processing waste, operating equipment, and loading trailers for disposal. The role includes performing basic plant checks, recording operational data, and carrying out yard duties such as washing and preparing containers for the Special Events division.
Job Responsibility:
Operate plant to process clinical waste, including weighing, recording throughput, visually inspecting waste, and storing it in designated areas
Carry out routine maintenance checks on plant and equipment, ensuring records are accurate and any issues are reported promptly
Complete weekly stock checks of bins and containers, maintaining required levels and reporting updates to the office
Identify and quarantine damaged containers in line with procedures, ensuring all containers are cleaned, repaired where possible, and ready for use using high-pressure washing equipment
Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organised event container yard, ensuring containers are emptied within required timeframes and wash-down areas remain clear
Support vehicle washing and assist with loading and unloading bins onto delivery and collection vehicles
Monitor site conditions, including carrying out gritting during winter when required
Follow all Health & Safety requirements, including the correct use of PPE and adherence to Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Risk Assessments
Report incidents, near misses, and spillages in line with company procedures, and support clean-up activities as needed
Provide a high standard of service to both internal and external customers
Maintain reliable timekeeping and ensure duties are completed effectively during working hours
Requirements:
A full UK driving licence is desirable but your own transport is essential due to the depot's location
Forklift truck licence is a plus (full training can be provided)
Confident and competent in safely operating machinery and plant
Practical and hands on, with solid DIY skills
A strong team player who can also work independently and communicate effectively
Basic IT skills, with full training provided on weighbridge systems
Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
Flexible and willing to support the team with occasional overtime when needed
A good understanding of Health & Safety and a commitment to working safely
