Job Description

Join our team at Grant & Stone Plumbing, a respected independent builder’s merchant serving the Southeast since 1987. We’re expanding our team at our Abingdon Branch and are looking for a dependable Warehouse Operative to help us continue delivering excellent service to our trade and retail customers. You will play a crucial role in managing inventory, handling materials, and ensuring timely deliveries.

Job Responsibility

Operate forklift equipment to move and store materials
Utilise the Warehouse Management System to track inventory and orders
Perform tasks, including heavy lifting to load and unload goods
Handle procedures with care and attention to detail
Conduct basic math calculations for inventory counts and order verification
Assist in sending and receiving processes
Collaborate with team members to efficiently load and unload
Deliver building materials to customers using a company van (3.5t or similar), ensuring safe and legal driving at all times
Plan efficient delivery routes in line with schedules provided
Ensure all goods are correctly loaded, secured, and signed for
Provide excellent customer service upon delivery, resolving minor queries where possible
Undertaking various other driving jobs required in relation to the efficient operation of the business
Assisting in the yard area with deliveries and assisting customers where necessary
Dealing with orders and enquiries received from customers and potential customers who attend the branch
Processing customer telephone orders that come into the branch
Offering a high standard of customer service by greeting customers and politely ascertaining their needs and wants
Recommending and pointing out items matching their needs, and accurately describing product features and benefits to maximise sales and customer satisfaction
Adopting a pro-active approach to maximise sales to existing customers
Actively making enquiries with customers who are not trading with Grant and Stone by exploring new sales opportunities where possible
Resolving customer queries, investigating complaints, and resolving these as soon as possible
Renegotiating product standard price, and considering special prices when necessary to maximise product sales
Be proactive in maintaining up to date technical knowledge of all products sold
Attend training relating to the role if requested by the Company
Observe strict adherence to the Company’s health and safety procedures at all times

Requirements

Full UK Driving Licence
Product Knowledge
Excellent customer service skills
Excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate at all levels
Self-motivated with a can-do attitude
Strong team player who works as part of a team and independently
