Job Description

Wētā FX is currently taking expressions of interest from Wardrobe Artists with Marvelous Designer and Maya experience to join our team in Melbourne, Australia. The Models department here at Wētā FX is responsible for the creation of the digital assets across all shows. These tasks include character, digital double, organic models, hard surface models, environments, hi-res sculpts for displacement map extraction, low resolution models for previs or crowds, shot sculpting, fur, hair and costume creation.

Job Responsibility

  • Create the Wardrobe digital assets across all shows
  • Create accurate models from 2d reference, photogrammetry, cut patterns and scan data
  • Hand off models that meet the technical requirements for other departments within Wētā FX and be accommodating of simulation requirements for VFX Wardrobe models

Requirements

  • Have an impressive reel showing a wide range of wardrobe, Marvelous Designer and hard surface accessories
  • Be able to build complex assets with clean and efficient topology and UVs
  • Demonstrate knowledge and experience using Maya and Marvelous Designer in a production environment
  • Have experience managing the complexity of Costume builds and associated asset inventory
  • Understand Linux desktop and system commands to perform daily tasks comfortably
  • Be comfortable taking direction and working independently while being an effective team player
  • Have strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Have excellent organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines
  • Be a clear and confident communicator

Nice to have

  • Related experience with character modelling or grooming
  • The ability to script in MEL and/or Python
