The Wyoming Department of Corrections is seeking a Warden for the Wyoming State Penitentiary (WSP) located in Rawlins, Wyoming. This position is responsible for administering and directing the daily operations and institutional programs of the Wyoming State Penitentiary, a maximum-security correctional facility.
Job Responsibility:
Administer and direct the daily operations and institutional programs of the Wyoming State Penitentiary
Ensure operations and programs are conducted in compliance with applicable state and federal statutes, departmental policies and procedures, and recognized correctional standards and best practices
Direct supervisory responsibility over institutional staff and incarcerated individuals across varying custody levels
Development and oversight of the biennial budget
Foster a safe, professional, and positive work environment for staff
Develop institutional mission and core values
Ensure short- and long-term goals and objectives are developed and implemented
Ensure successful accreditation and re-accreditation from regulatory agencies
Develop strategic planning objectives, measures, and outcomes
Ensure sound security management of the institution and compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements
Develop a positive prison culture to enhance mutual respect between staff and inmates
Maintains a safe and secure facility
Direct and coordinate institution personnel in providing daily living services, work, training, and self-improvement opportunities for inmates
Manage the workforce within the facility to include hiring, discipline, termination, evaluation, and training of all staff
Develops and administers standard operational policies and procedures governing program operations
Monitor and direct fiscal control actions related to budgets
Monitor and review inmate due process activities and the grievance process
Interpersonal interactions with the local community
Monitor and review all public information requests
Review and inspect institutional operations and physical plant
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice or a related field
Eight (8) years of progressive work experience in a correctional or detention facility
Three (3) years of management experience in a correctional or detention facility at the level of a warden, deputy warden, associate warden, superintendent or deputy superintendent
Knowledge of unit management concepts
Knowledge of human relations
Knowledge of institutional health standards and corrections training programs
Knowledge of educational and recreational programs
Knowledge of middle management supervision and techniques
Knowledge of constitutional, criminal, and legal law
Knowledge of the criminal justice system, department policies, and procedures
Knowledge of procedures used in criminal justice agencies and cognitive behavior programs
Skill in interpersonal communications
Skill in team building and problem resolution
Skill in oral and written communication
Skill in organization, time management, group facilitation, and problem-solving
Ability to manage and supervise staff and inmates
Ability to identify and correct inappropriate inmate behavior
