We are assisting a fast-growing Property & Casualty insurance company in their search for a Vice President – Controller to lead financial operations within a dynamic, growth-oriented organization. This executive role will oversee core accounting functions, ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, and drive strong regulatory compliance across the enterprise. The VP–Controller will serve as a key advisor to leadership on complex accounting matters, emerging insurance products, and strategic initiatives. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in P&C insurance accounting, statutory reporting, and reinsurance/fronting structures, along with a proven track record of building and leading high-performing finance teams.
Job Responsibility:
Provide strategic oversight of all accounting operations, including general ledger, consolidations, intercompany, AP/AR, and payroll
Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes in compliance with US GAAP and P&C statutory reporting requirements
Serve as the technical expert on P&C accounting matters, including reinsurance (ceded and assumed), premium recognition, and loss reserves
Oversee preparation and filing of statutory financial statements, Yellow Book filings, premium tax returns, and other regulatory reports
Monitor and implement new FASB and NAIC accounting standards
Evaluate accounting impacts of new insurance products and complex transactions
Partner with actuarial, underwriting, legal, and operations teams to support financial strategy, risk management, and growth initiatives
Lead external audits, internal audits, and regulatory examinations
Develop and mentor a high-performing finance team
Drive improvements to accounting policies, systems, and processes to support scalability and operational efficiency
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
CPA required
10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership roles such as Controller or Assistant Controller
Property & Casualty insurance accounting experience required, including fronting and reinsurance structures
Strong knowledge of statutory reporting and regulatory requirements for P&C carriers
Experience in high-growth or startup environments preferred
Advanced Excel and financial systems/ERP proficiency
Strong leadership, analytical, and communication skills with the ability to operate both strategically and hands-on
